About Lil' Ma Kitchen in Midland, TX

A Family-Run Kitchen Born from Love and a Promise Kept

Lil' Ma Kitchen is a family-owned and operated restaurant serving soul food and homestyle cooking to Midland, Odessa, Andrews, Stanton, Crane, Big Spring, and Lubbock. Founded by April Samora and her kids, the restaurant started with a spontaneous opportunity to rent a space on Rankin Highway and grew from April's years of selling plates out of her house with her children by her side.

The name carries deep meaning. April's best friend passed away from cancer at just 16 years old, and she always called April "Lil Ma." Opening this restaurant wasn't just about food—it was about honoring that friendship and keeping a promise. Every plate that leaves the kitchen carries that story forward.

This is a true family operation. April and her kids run everything, from prep to service. You're not dealing with a corporate chain or a big staff—you're working directly with the family who built this place from the ground up. That personal touch shows in the food, the service, and the way the restaurant connects with the community.

When you visit Lil' Ma Kitchen, you're stepping into a space rooted in love, hard work, and West Texas pride. The food is made fresh every day, and the atmosphere is welcoming whether you're stopping in for lunch, picking up a family meal, or bringing your dog along to enjoy the patio.

From House Plates to Brick-and-Mortar in Midland

Before the restaurant opened, April was selling plates out of her home with her kids helping every step of the way. Word spread quickly in Midland, and when the chance came to rent a restaurant space, the family took it. What started as a hustle became a full-fledged business, but the heart of it never changed—homestyle cooking made by a family who genuinely cares.

The menu reflects that same approach. Everything is prepared fresh daily, and there are dishes here you won't find anywhere else. The family has developed recipes and cooking methods that are uniquely theirs, and regulars know exactly what keeps them coming back. It's not about mass production or shortcuts—it's about putting real food on the table the way it's meant to be made.

Lil' Ma Kitchen also gives back to the Midland community in meaningful ways. The restaurant has provided charity catering for customers in need, including supporting a regular customer through recovery from brain surgery. When someone in the community needs help, the Samora family shows up—not for publicity, but because that's what neighbors do.

Locally Owned, Family-First, and Proud to Serve West Texas

You'll notice the difference the moment you walk in. This isn't a franchise with corporate policies and detached management. April and her kids are there, running the show, talking to customers, and making sure every order reflects the care that built this business. It's family-friendly, pet-friendly, and rooted in the kind of West Texas hospitality that feels like home.
